Lunar Rituals: How to Connect with the Phases of the Moon + New 2026 Lunar Calendar

Every year, I create a Lunar Calendar for my community and my clients.

Personally, I love connecting with the Moon and bringing ritual into my life. Because life can be hectic and sometimes stressful, with endless lists of things to do, I like to pause and give myself a small ritual at different moments throughout the month. It is a simple way to bring my attention back to my inner world.

The energies accompanying us in 2026

This year, my Lunar Calendar features the Horse as the guiding totem animal for 2026.

More precisely, the Fire Horse of the Chinese calendar.

The Fire Horse symbolizes dynamism, enthusiasm, and a powerful force that drives us toward freedom!

The combination of the Horse and the element of Fire opens the door to a 2026 filled with innovation, leadership, and decisive action, as well as a desire for adventure and change.

This energy pairs beautifully with the energy of the number 1 in numerology. In fact, 2026 is a Year 1 — the number of new beginnings, leadership, and independence!

So, full speed ahead! Strength and courage!

And if you would like to experiment with rituals for the lunar phases, keep reading. Below, I share a few ritual suggestions for each of the main phases of the Moon.

Here are some ideas for creating rituals during the main lunar phases. These are simply suggestions: take whatever resonates with you and create your own ritual.

🌑 New Moon

Theme: New beginnings and unlimited potential

You can see this phase as a completely blank canvas, waiting before you, ready for you to begin drawing and painting.

Ritual Ideas

  • Set an intention for a new version of yourself, a new project, or simply allow new seed-ideas to emerge into your awareness.

  • Use objects (crystals, talismans, works of art) and charge them with your intention to support you as you develop this new project. Then leave them near a window overnight so they can absorb the quality of the darkness. They will become charged and ready to accompany you on this new journey.

  • Go for a walk and allow yourself to absorb this energy of new beginnings.

🎨 Among my paintings, the ones that most inspire this energy are: Becoming, When Walking in the Shadows, Inner Vision

‘Becoming’, painting by Laura Teodori

🌓 First Quarter

Theme: Action, decisions, commitment

You have started painting your canvas, but you may feel a little intimidated by the life project unfolding before you. This is the moment to move beyond fears and doubts, renew your commitment to your desires, and pick up your brush once again.

Ritual Ideas

  • Sit comfortably and use your breath to bring your nervous system back into balance. Simply bring your awareness to each deep breath.

If fears or doubts arise, allow them to surface and breathe into them. Your breath will help you integrate them rather than leaving you in a state of resistance.

You will feel them slowly dissolve, while ideas about possible actions you can take will naturally begin to emerge.

During this process, surround yourself with the objects you chose during the New Moon.

🎨 Among my paintings, the ones that most inspire this energy are: (Re)Birth of the Phoenix, Cosmic Wolf, Being

🌕 Full Moon

Theme: Culmination, harvest, celebration

Thanks to your actions and commitment, you have reached the culmination of your project, intention, or seed-idea. This is the moment to celebrate yourself, to feel gratitude for your progress and even for the obstacles you encountered along the way, which have taught you something more about yourself.

Ritual Ideas

  • Do something that makes you happy! Treat yourself to a delicious meal or a dessert you love but rarely allow yourself to enjoy.

  • Move your body and feel the sensuality of life flowing through your veins.

  • Take a luxurious bath with essential oils and fragrances you love (awaken your inner Cleopatra — you are a Queen or a King!).

🎨 Among my paintings that most evoke the celebration of life are: Manifestation of Connection, Being, Abundance

🌗 Last Quarter

Theme: Reflection on the past cycle, release, lightening

You have finished your painting and added your signature. It is time to bring things to a close, protect what you have created, and carefully put it away.

Ritual Ideas

  • Meditate on your journey, let go of judgments toward yourself or others, forgive your “mistakes,” and put your thoughts to rest.

  • Write down what you would like to improve as you prepare for the next cycle. Give thanks to the people and objects that accompanied you along the way.

🎨 Among my paintings, the ones that best accompany this phase are: Remembrance of Self,When Walking in the Shadows, Being

I hope I have inspired you to work with the energies of the Moon and to welcome this force, as gentle as it is powerful, into your life.
